Fuse jam! 5 -1-3 Aug 2025

What's a Fuse Jam?

Fuse Jam is a space to be playful and creative with other people in a game jam format. Starting with some group games to get to know each other; followed by an exciting interactive theme creation process. Each group will get their own theme to spark ideas from two fused-together prompts! Then everyone goes away and makes something, it can be digital or physical as long as it uses the theme. At the end of the jam everyone will come together to share what they have made, whether it is finished or a work in progress. There is no obligation to create a ‘finished’ game. Previous fuse jam prompts have involved sound effects, space captains and even hook-a-duck. This will be the first in-person Fuse Jam in Dundee, with Fuse Jam 1-3 being hosted in Bristol, and Fuse Jam 4 as an online jam!

Do I need experience making games?

We encourage people of all skill levels to join in - including complete beginners. If you are interested in making a digital game, there are plenty of beginner-friendly tools such as Bitsy and Twine that we can introduce you to during the jam. Please not that children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

What defines a game is really up to the people who create it, and we are very keen for Fuse Jam to explore this by creating digital, board, role-playing and physical projects, as well as anything else you might like to create!

When and Where is Fuse Jam?

Accessibility

The Central Library, Steps Theatre, and ScrapAntics are all wheelchair accessible via either of the Wellgate’s main entrances. If arriving via the Panmure Street entrance, there are lifts inside the Wellgate to access the venues. If arriving via the Victoria Street entrance (see image below), the Steps Theatre and Central Library can be accessed through the upper entrance (yellow circle), and ScrapAntics can be accessed through the lower entrance (blue square). The Steps Theatre is an old cinema, which has wheelchair access in the top row, and is fitted with an audio loop.

What to bring

  • Please bring your own lunch and refreshments! There is a water fountain within the Central Library, and there will be teas / coffees / biscuits on Sunday. There are also lots of shops / cafés near the Wellgate should you need them.

  • If you want to make a digital game, please bring a laptop and any equipment you need. Please note that the power supply at both the Central Library and Scrap Antics is limited and may not allow for everyone to be plugged in at all times!

  • If you want to make a physical game, we will have some supplies such as paper / pens, but feel free to bring any additional craft materials.

  • You will be provided with a theme on Friday evening, so try not to come with a preformed game idea as this will be shaped by your theme and your teammates.
